Recommended if you can plan months in advance for a Tuesday morning tour and think you will enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of a few big machines and a lot of manual labour turning fine wood into beautiful instruments: a tour of the Steinway piano factory in Queens, where highly skilled blue-collar work meets world-class business and marketing.

I very much appreciated seeing the moulding of a concert grand's frame, timed for our visit, and will be reading up more on the old Steinway transit network and the company's role in the formation of Queens itself.
